Are You In Transition?
You Must Avoid These Common Pitfalls.
Your Takeaways For This Week
Hey, Equippers! Mike Brewer here.
Welcome to another edition of The Equipper!
Are you a God-inspired, Holy Spirit-led change-maker, moving out of old, traditional ways and embracing a new path in Christ? If that resonates with you, let us know by clicking “Yes” or “No” below.
The Power of Godly Transitions
The Bible is filled with stories of people who were called into new seasons, each one pivotal for the advancement of God’s Kingdom. Abraham was asked to leave everything familiar and go to a land he’d never seen, trusting solely in God’s promise (Genesis 12:1-4). Moses, a prince of Egypt, had to transition from the palace to the wilderness, and eventually lead God’s people out of slavery (Exodus 3). Paul, once a zealous persecutor, experienced one of the most radical transitions, going from enemy of the faith to one of its greatest apostles (Acts 9).
In each story, the decision to follow God into the unknown wasn’t easy. It came with real sacrifices, discomfort, and sometimes opposition. But each transition, though painful at times, brought about a new dimension of blessing, depth of faith, and Kingdom impact. Transitions, when led by God, carry the promise of a fresh anointing, a new authority, and an expanded purpose.
Recognizing the Need for Change
One of the most challenging parts of any transition is knowing when it’s time to move forward. Here are some of the ways God often stirs our hearts to transition into a new season:
Discomfort in the Current Season – You feel a growing sense that what was once fulfilling is no longer aligned with where God is taking you.
A Deep Calling to Something New – There’s a pull toward something that stretches you, where God is already moving.
Dissatisfaction with the “Old Wineskin” – Just as Jesus taught in Matthew 9:17, He has new wine for each of us, and new wineskins are needed to contain it. If you feel limited by your current structure or approach, God may be calling you to step into something new.
Common Concerns During Transition
Any transition brings its own set of challenges and concerns. You’re not alone in feeling these when God begins to lead you into a new season:
Fear of the Unknown – Letting go of what’s familiar is tough. Questions like, “Will I fail?” and “What if it doesn’t work out?” can linger.
Leaving Your Comfort Zone – There’s a real challenge in stepping out from what’s secure into what feels like “unsettled ground.”
Facing Others’ Reactions – Some may misunderstand or even oppose your transition, which can lead to feelings of isolation.
Identity Shift – Without your usual roles and titles, you may feel vulnerable and question who you are in this new season.
Our Personal Journey: From Haiti to The Well of Maryville and The Well Global Alliance
Andrea and I faced a season of intense transition ourselves. Moving from our years of ministry in Haiti, where we had established relationships, influence, and success, into a completely new vision to plant The Well of Maryville—and then The Well Global Alliance—was both exciting and daunting. We left the comfort of what we knew well and stepped into a future that was still taking shape.
The process was not easy. We had to let God work through areas in us that needed healing and refining. Rejection and misunderstanding came our way, and God used those moments to reveal insecurities that we hadn’t yet surrendered. We had to release our reliance on past accomplishments and embrace new relationships, a new community, and new ways of thinking. We learned that not everyone would walk through this change with us. Yet we knew God was calling us to build a new wineskin, even when it felt overwhelming to imagine what that would look like.
Through the difficulties, we leaned on one another and trusted that God’s faithfulness would guide us forward. And through this journey, He has been faithful every step of the way.
Avoiding Pitfalls During Transition
Transitions bring blessings, but they also come with potential pitfalls. Here are a few we’ve encountered and some strategies for overcoming them:
Clinging to Past Methods and Relationships – It’s natural to want to hold onto what’s familiar, but God may be calling you to release certain methods, and even some relationships, that served you well in the past but aren’t meant for this next season.
Seeking Others’ Approval Over God’s Direction – As you transition, the enemy may try to distract you by stirring a need for validation from others. Let the affirmation of God’s Word be your true guide and focus.
Rushing or Avoiding the Hard Parts – There is often a temptation to hurry through the discomfort or skip over necessary growth moments. Embrace each stage as part of the process God is using to shape you. Joshua 1:9 reminds us, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
God’s Word reassures us that these challenges can be overcome when we trust in His timing and His ways. Letting go of our limited understanding allows God to direct our path, leading us through and beyond the discomfort into purpose and fulfillment (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Positive Outcomes of Healthy Transition
If we embrace God’s transitions, we find that His outcomes are more than worth it:
Greater Dependence on God – Transitions often lead us to depend on the Lord like never before, deepening our trust and reliance on His provision and direction.
New, Life-Giving Connections – In leaving the familiar, God provides fresh relationships and Kingdom connections that strengthen us in the journey.
Expanded Ministry Impact – Transitioning from one season to the next often brings us into a new place of influence. We gain a broader platform to share the gospel, reach others, and witness God’s goodness.
A New Chapter: The Equipping Community
Due to the strong response from last week’s question about community interest, we are thrilled to announce that The Equipping Community is moving forward! This community is being created specifically for you—Holy Spirit-led, God-inspired change-makers who are transitioning out of traditional ways to embrace the new wineskins God is preparing.
Though building this community will take time, we’re excited to create a place where believers can find support, exchange breakthrough strategies, and foster courage to bring forth fresh, Jesus-centered communities. The Equipping Community will be a sanctuary of encouragement, equipping you for the battles ahead as you step boldly into God’s purposes.
Thank you for journeying with us and for your heart to see God’s Kingdom advance. We can’t wait to see the impact The Equipping Community will have as we embrace new seasons together, transforming old wineskins with the fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit. This is not a Facebook community. It is not a course.
The Equipper Community will be an authentic, conversational space where you can connect with other believers around the world who are committed to spiritual growth, strategic insights, and deepening their walk with Christ. A place where you can ask questions, share wisdom, and receive regular teachings to equip you for spiritual warfare, intercession, and Kingdom leadership. We’d focus on equipping each other to fulfill our God-given callings.
